Eco-Friendly Nails

This is actually one of the cool things a girl can do with her nails, pastel polish and soon-to-be recycled newspaper clippings.

I did it for the first time today and I enjoyed it immensely. I did it a bit different than the directions I'm about to write out below.

What You Need:
1. Light-colored nail polish (grey, white, pastel shades)
2. Newspaper strips large enough to be pressed down onto your nails
3. Rubbing alcohol
4. Clear nail polish to finish for top-coat.

What You Do:
1. File and fix your nails as you normally do (to make them look all pretty, of course. ;D )
2. Apply as many desired coats of your light-colored nail polish (I used white nail polish so I had to apply about 4-5 normal coats per nail).
3. Once your nails are COMPLETELY dry, place them into a small dish of rubbing alcohol--make sure your nail is thoroughly wet with it (and be prepared for stings on your unseen cuts...ouch!)
4. Take one of your paper/newspaper strips and press firmly onto your nail for 30 seconds. Sort of like a temporary tattoo, just with way more pressure. And make sure you don't wiggle the paper around, keep it as firmly in place as possible.
5. Once you've peeled the paper back, let it dry, apply 1-3 top coats of clear polish and Voila! Sit back and admire. ;)

I actually used a thicker paper for mine (which I DON'T recommend you do). My housemate gave me some sheet-music to try. It worked well on the first nail then kind of went down-hill from there. :/ The paper had a bad tendency to peel and stick onto the nail polish, making it course and bumpy with paper fibers. BUT, it was very unique and pretty. :D

I also used, on the other hand, some crossword answers from a crossword book my maw-maw gave me. That worked really well and the paper was thin enough to not leave fibers. I didn't think to take a picture of that, sadly, but I think there is an example on one of the nails above. :)

I had fun and don't have money for manicures and pedicures. I'm used to doing them at home, so it was nice to spice it up a bit. I might try some different kind of pictures/print in the future...future being after college. :P Because once break is over this week, it's back to being busy 65-70 hours a week. Oh, Jesus, slow this Thanksgiving week down I pray. lol.
