Here's Looking at You Kid

So, for some crazy reason, Matthew and I started talking about what kind of dog we will get when we can finally afford one when we move in together (married, duh!).

I'm all like, "Labradors! They are the best dogs ever!" I want a big, fat, stinkin' crappy lab probably because my first dog, who I still love with all my heart, was a Lab/Chow mix.

Seeing as how my fiance is a gun enthusiast and has a military mindset, I don't think a lab is that fantastic of a dog. Maybe a lab is perfect for a suburban family, but for a beginning couple like us, probably not. I know Matt wants me to get my concealed carry licence asap for protection; if I'm marrying a guy all about self defense, I'm pretty sure he wants an intimidating looking pet.

He suggested a German Shepherd; I shot that down real quick. (I hate German Shepherds, honestly; that's too intimidating even for me).

Finally he poses the idea, "Well, what about Boxers? I've always wanted one. They are really good with kids and family, they look mean but really are gentle."

lol, my first reaction was, "Eeew! Ghetto dogs with big mushed faces. No!"

We hung up the phone, then I started to research them. It took less then ten minutes to coo over puppy pictures and see they are probably the best dogs for our kind of living. If there is one thing Matt and I like to do, it's shower affection on whatever we can and he's teaching me the value of quality time--two needs that boxers demand from their owners. They are goofy dogs, headstrong, loyal, insane lovers, great defenders, need quality time and physical touch and are--to my great surprise--a German breed (that sounds exactly my fiance, believe it or not, pun-not-intended).

When I told Matt they rank #7 for family pets, he was sold COMPLETELY (seven, the number of purity, is his favorite).

I so want one as our first dog now. Matt wants to get a puppy, but I ultimately think it would be wisest for us to get one from a dog rescue company (we probably won't have time and attention to devote to a puppies needs). I actually found a website dedicated to putting boxers in good homes that have been rescued.

We've got plenty of time to decide on where we're going to get it, how, etc. But in the meantime, I'm hooked on these cute little lovable guys. I can't wait to start our family and add this adorable addition.
